We should be celebrated every day
While we often look back at icons from a different era, I want to acknowledge the women of the “now”—those I’ve had the privilege of witnessing over the years, the everyday women I see making an impact in the world today.
In 2012, the “Creator Economy” was a newborn baby. At work, my team and I were arduously working in this area, figuring out how to shift brands from investing only in “traditional ads” to connecting with people in a way that their target audience would feel more connected and organic. We weren’t just following a trend; we were building the road as we walked it.
About 11 years ago, I was part of a major global campaign: All Things Hair for Unilever. It generated a total of 64 million views in the initial phase alone. Our very small team was leading the Brazilian side; my boss at the time and I flew to Brazil and worked closely with creators for the launch of that first year-long campaign.
But the real history isn’t just found in those high-level view counts. It’s in the evolution of the everyday woman:
- The “girls” we started with are now entrepreneurs, keynote speakers, and industry celebrities.
- They are women who are balancing high-level careers with family life—those who are dedicated moms, wives, and leaders.
This is the spirit of being a woman. We are unstoppable. We balance the boardroom and the living room, many times without recognition, but we know our work makes a difference for our families and the women coming after us.
History isn’t just found in books. It’s in the women you work with and the ones you meet in your daily life. The mother who works tirelessly and unselfishly, and the girl who has a dream and never gives up. We only need to look around to see so many of them. I believe we are the ones who make this world a better place.
