The April Reframing: When “Now” Becomes Non-Negotiable

The April Reframing: When “Now” Becomes Non-Negotiable

The Birthday

April has always felt like my true New Year. As my birthday month, it naturally triggers a season of “auto-reflection”—a deep, internal audit of where I am versus where I intended to be. It’s a month meant for reframing, as the first quarter of the year closes and a fresh one begs for our attention. It’s a season for reflowering the garden of our lives.

The Weight of the Present

But this year, the reflection is deeper. I recently received news that shook me: a person I met last year and enjoy her presence every time I run into her is beginning cancer treatment this month. She is vibrant, kind, and has a beautiful family with two darling little girls.

When news like this hits your circle, especially during a milestone month like a birthday, the abstract idea of “mindful living” stops being a theory. It becomes a visceral reality. It reminds us that the power of now is the greatest gift we can ever give ourselves.

The Shift: From Projecting to Presence

For a long time, I spent my birthdays projecting dreams ten years into the distance—planning for a version of myself that lived in a future I hadn’t reached yet.

Then came motherhood, and with it came the realization that life doesn’t always wait for our ten-year plans. It changed the math for me.

I’ve stopped projecting and started planting. I’ve realized that deeply connecting yourself to what truly matters right now is the most invigorating power you can have. I want to see my dreams grow in front of me, with my full presence, rather than chasing them on a horizon that keeps moving.

Let’s do it together:

Even if it isn’t your birthday month, I invite you to use this transition into Q2 to reframe your “life garden.”

The Compost (Leave in Q1)The Bloom (Bring to Q2)
“Someday” goals that cause guilt.Actions that create an immediate connection.
The habit of living in the next decade. The “Power of Now”—prioritizing today’s joy.
Digital noise and performative busy-ness.Mental space for what is truly vital.

The Birthday Wish

My wish this year isn’t for something in the future. It’s for the clarity to see the beauty of the present.

Your Turn: What is one dream you’ve been “projecting” into the future that you can actually start nurturing today?

My Closing Thought

Reflowering your life isn’t about doing more; it’s about ensuring that what you are doing actually matters. Let’s hold our loved ones a little closer this month and treat our “now” as the precious, invigorated resource it is.

Love, Vivian
